Carroll Boys Win Marcus Coach T Invitational
Girls Finish Second; Cantu, Walsh Top Dragon Finishers
Southlake, TX – The Southlake Carroll boys cross country team, the three-time defending state 6A champion, won its second meet in as many weekends Saturday morning at the Marcus Coach T Invitational in Denton. Senior Logan Cantu was the Dragons’ top runner, finishing the 5K race in 15:16, good for second overall.
The girls’ squad, led by junior Alexandra Walsh (5th place overall, 17:35), finished second to defending state champion Flower Mound.
“Our young men and women had great races today,” head coach Justin Leonard said. “This is always one of the most competitive meets of the season, and both of our elite varsity teams had two top-10 runners. I’m very proud of how we competed.”
In the varsity elite boys’ race, sophomore Blake Bullard followed Cantu’s 15:16 finish with a 15:33, good for seventh place overall. Freshman Caden Leonard finished 18th in 15:51, followed by junior Zach Troutman (24th, 15:56) and sophomore Alex Severson (30th, 16:06).
In the varsity elite girls’ race, senior Ava Bushaw followed-up Walsh’s fifth-place finish with a time of 17:47 and a seventh-place finish of her own. Sophomore Elizabeth Smits (21st, 18:35) was next, followed by junior Sylvia Schwedler (22nd, 18:42) and senior Audrey Dunn (25th, 18:50).
In the varsity open races, Griffin Cords paced the Dragons in the boys’ competition, finishing seventh overall with a time of 16:41. He was followed by Carter Haskell (11th, 16:50) and Jeremy Kogan (32nd, 17:23). Charlotte Martin finished seventh on the girls’ side (19:40), followed by Hannah McIlvain (11th, 20:02) and Avery Anderson (21st, 20:27).
In junior varsity action, James Mason led the boys with a 20th-place finish (18:44), followed by Quentin Gourdon (19:22) and Raheem Siddiqui (19:34). In the girls’ race, Ashley Cusick paced Carroll with a 12th-place finish (22:26), followed by Marissa Martinez (22:50) and Katie Hurrell (23:02).
The Dragons return to action on Saturday, Sept. 17. The varsity will travel to Norco, Ca., to compete in the Woodbridge XC Classic, while the junior varsity will run in the Paschal Invitational in Fort Worth
