Dragon High School Boys Lacrosse looks to build momentum this Weekend.
The Dragon High School Boys Lacrosse team will look to get on the right track on Friday night when they travel to play Colleyville’s D2 squad at Coppell Middle school at 7pm. The Dragons then host Round Rock (1-1) in their home opener Sunday at 1pm at Dragon Stadium.
The Dragons opened the season on the road in Houston with mixed results. The Dragons Varsity team dropped the first game 9-5 to Kingwood. On Sunday, they took on The Woodlands. The Woodlands were up 2-0 when two penalties caused the Dragons to go down by two men. Before play resumed a third penalty helped increase the Woodland’s advantage to three.
Last-year’s State runners up capitalized and scored three goals while having the advantage, extending their lead to 5-0 as just over 6 minutes remained in the half. Junior attack Jake Guillen assisted fellow Junior Attack Carson Green for a goal but the half ended at 6-1.
Dragon freshman John Hollingsworth started off the second half with a Dragon goal but The Woodlands scored on a wrap-around to lead 7-2. Sophomore Connor Edge found sophomore Will Horack for the goal to make it 7-3, but the Dragons twice again found themselves in penalty kill mode to end the 3rd quarter.
Sophomore Preston Deno found the net to make it 9-4 with just under 5 minutes left. Carson Green scored his second to get to the final 9-5 score.
Head Coach Bart Sullivan will look to leverage his experience when the season ultimately moves into District completion. His squad is anchored by Senior defensemen Jack Welding and Nathan Beam, middie Dean DiBello, and attackman Brody Danel. The Junior class will provide plenty of experience with likely starters Goalie Eryk Ross, middies Casey Wasserman and AJ Van den Dyssel, long-stick middle Nick Donfris, attack Carson Green, and defenseman George Elmquist.
Other juniors include Max Towers, who has taken the majority of the face-offs and attackman Jake Guillen. The remaining juniors are physical defenders including Michael Tsay, transitioning from a d-pole to a short-stick, Parker Ensch, Victor Simpson and Dylan Patterson.
The Sophomore class is represented on defense by goalie Greg Hill and dpole Ryan Thompson. Offensive players include Paxton Garman, Preston Deno, Connor Edge and Jeremy Bach. Griffin Fitzgerald, Will Horak and Evan Hochwalt. Several freshmen made the early varsity roster including attackman Harry Blake and John Hollingsworth and face-off man Luke Leffingwell.
The Dragons are coached by Head coach Bart Sullivan who will be joined by new Assistant Coach Justin Bokmeyer, along with Nick Bumpass and Delano Carniero. Bokmeyer joins Sullivan staff as a former player and team Captain on the Army Lacrosse team. He also played professionally for the Denver Outlaws of the MLL.
The JV team, following a season-opening 13-1 win over Denton, built their win streak to three games. The defeated Kingwood 4-3 before taking down The Woodlands by an impressive 21-4 score. They will take on Colleyville on Friday night at 6pm.
