Round Rock, TX (November 9, 2019) – The Texas 6A Boys and Girls cross-country trophies are back where they belong at Southlake Carroll. Riding a wave of momentum, perseverance, exceptional dedication and hard work, Southlake Carroll Dragons Boys and Girls teams swept the 6A titles at the Texas state championship meet held in Round Round last Saturday.  The path to the state titles highlighted the exceptional depth of this year’s SLC Boys and Girls cross-country teams.

Head Cross Country Coach Justin Leonard said, “It’s really hard to express in words how proud of our kids we are.  Our runners set a goal last year to win the state meet this season and they worked extremely hard to achieve it. It was a total team effort by everyone in or program. Our kids were at their best when it mattered the most and I’m just so thankful that I got to be apart of their journey.”

For the Boys team it was a long awaited redemption after several years of near misses. The Boys team scored 80 points, followed by traditional nemesis Conroe The Woodlands (115 points), and Lewisville Flower Mound (133 points).  Solomon Chavez came in 6th place overall at the meet; following him in scoring for the Dragons was Antonio Florcruz in 14th place with Tim McElaney right behind him in 15th place.  Joe Gardner was next to cross the line for the Dragons in 20th place, and Michael McCabe rounded out the Dragons scoring in 25th place.  Nate Lannen (36th) and Brett Gilley (51st) also competed for the team.

The Lady Dragons won handily. The squad scored 45 points, followed by Humble Kingwood (91 points) and Prosper (105 points). Jenna Holland paced the team, finishing 5th overall. Following her in scoring for the team was Katherine McElaney in 7th place, Grace Williamson in 10th place, Tatum Foreman in 11th place, and Abigail McIlvain in 12th place.
