Last year, Pastor Leon Reyes, led the city of Southlake in collecting 400 Easter hygiene bags for the homeless and distributing them on Easter Sunday at an open air worship service in downtown Dallas. Southlake poured in support and Fit Church was able to meet their goal. This year, he is opening this drive up to not just Southlake, but all surrounding communities and the goal is even more aggressive than last year.
"Last year, we expected 400 homeless people at our Easter service, and we had over 800. This year, our Easter bag goal is much larger to try and hand a bag out to every homeless person in attendance this Easter," says Pastor Leon.
Leon, who went voluntarily homeless in November 2012 (more info at haveyouseenleon.com), enlists Trophy Club (where is church is located), Southlake and the surrounding communities to help him collect care bags again this year for the Dallas homeless. He and his church will lead a city-wide worship service on Easter for the homeless, and afterwards will help feed them and pass out the hygiene bags.
Pastor Leon explains, "Hands-on humanitarian initiatives is what we are all about at Fit Church. Our model is based on mind, body, spirit and the world around us, and giving back to our communities is very near and dear to our hearts."
Fit Church is looking for monetary donations (the cost is around $10-12/bag), material donations, and volunteers to help with the Easter Sunday service, which all who were in attendance last year insist is was the best Easter Sunday they have ever experienced. To Participate:
- Make a monetary donation at myfitchurch.com/easter (100% of the proceeds go directly to the Easter bags, and donations are tax-deductible).
- Involve your family and create Easter bags to donate to the cause.
- Volunteer your time on Easter Sunday to minister directly to the homeless (1727 Corsicana Street, Dallas, TX 75201 at 7am Easter Sunday).

- Travel sized shampoo & conditioner
- 1 comb
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Individual kleenex package
- Small hand sanitizer
- Travel sized deodorant
- Mini first aid kit
- Soap bar
- Small hand/body lotion
- 1 pair socks
- Easter grass (to make it festive)
- 2 colored plastic Easter eggs with candy
- All put into a 1 gallon ziplock bag, decorated with an encouraging message
