The 6th Strokes of Art in the Square

On February 17 the 2019 Strokes of Art in the Square kicks-off the 20th Art in the Square (April 26-28).   A free reception will be in the foyer of Southlake Town Hall from 5-6:30. The community is invited to join the celebration for creative visual arts, music, and refreshments.

 

The Southlake Women’s Club Foundation will present the 2019 Beneficiaries of Art in the Square. As in the past years guests will be the first to view creative visuals of the 2019 Art in the Square featured artists. The showcase of featured artists will take on a different twist. The displayed artwork features returning artists that participated in Art in the Square for at least 15 years.

 

The People’s Choice Winner is selected by public vote from the featured artists. Voting begins at Strokes and will end on April 1st. The community is invited to visit Town Hall and cast a vote for their favorite.

 

Guest will be treated to tastings by local restaurants and entertainment. Strokes is co-sponsored by the Southlake Arts Council, Apex Arts League and Art in the Square/Southlake Women’s Club.

 

Save the dates April 26-28 to attend …Art in the Square… “Celebrating culture and Community”  by enriching the community with art, entertainment and family fun.

The SWC Foundation invites 501(c) (3) organizations that serve women, children and families in Northeast Tarrant County to apply for funding from the 2019 Art in the Square proceeds.  All applications must be submitted online by January 15, 2019 to be considered. This year no mailed printed applications are being accepted.

 

Since 2000 the Southlake Women’s Club Foundation’s caring commitment has given over $2,800.000 to philanthropic organizations across NE Tarrant County.  In 2018 $200K was shared by 30 beneficiaries.

 

Plans are underway for the 20th Art in the Square. The Southlake Women’s Club Foundation has created a nationally ranked juried art festival that partners with artists, volunteers and sponsors to make a commitment in the community..

 

The 2019 Art in the Square will be held April 26-28 at Southlake Town Square.  Beneficiaries will be presented at the “Strokes of Art in the Square” reception on February 17, 2019.

Put a little Grinch in your holiday plans with Summer Santa!

Parent, grandparents, aunts and uncles...….looking for a memorable activity to start the holiday season! Summer Santa has the answer for you. On Nov 10 at 3pm at Southlake Town Square Harkins Theatre, Summer Santa is presenting a private showing of Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch.

Tickets may be purchased beginning Oct.15 at www.summersanta.org or 888-287-2682, Admission: adults/ $20 and children 2-12/ $15. The price includes a fountain drink and small popcorn.  Don’t miss out on the fun. Limited seating available so get your tickets early!    

Proceeds benefit Summer Santa's summer programs for the children in Northeast Tarrant County.  Spread some cheer to those in need and feel your heart grow by three sizes.

$200K is the number for 2018 Art in the Square!

Mother Nature created three beautiful days as an artful background for the Southlake Women's Club's 19th Art in the Square. 159 professional, 98 high school artists, 6 emerging artists, 100 sponsors, almost 1000 volunteers and many art loving visitors painted a portrait that was a success. For the second time in 19 years $200K goes to charities in NE Tarrant County. 30 charities reap the benefits of a giving community.

Organizers are also pleased to give a shout out for the talents of professional and novice artists that displayed amazing artwork. The community chose Darien Bogart as the 2018 People’s Choice Winner. 

 

Awards of Excellence were also given in the following categories:

  • Oil and acrylic :  Pamela Blaies, Richard Hall &  Tate Hamilton
  • Watercolor:  Greg Barnes
  • Metal/wood:  Seth Vandable.

Being selected for an Award of Excellence has earned these artists an invitation to the 20th anniversary in 2019 for Art in the Square.

High school artists receiving recognition were:

  • First Place /Lone Star Award:  Kortlane Judd (art will be displayed in the Texas capitol rotunda)
  • Second Place:  Steph Gramillion
  • Third Place:  Audrey Horn
  • Honorable mention was given to Hannah Boggs, Kateyn Brown,Francesca Churchill, Samantha Friday and Brett Naughton.

 

Next year will mark the 20th Anniversary for Art in the Square. Save the dates April 26-28. It will be a celebration to remember!

Southlake Women’s Club Foundation recognizes graduates with scholarships!

Seven outstanding seniors from CISD Senior High School have been awarded scholarships. The Southlake Women’s Club Foundation scholarship committee reviewed applications considering financial need, student initiative, character, leadership and community service.  The deserving graduates are:

Caleigh Mc Guire – North Texas University

Rachel Connell- Baylor University

Karson Stebbing-Auburn University

John Williams Cooper, Blinn College

Madelynn Tung-University of Southern California

Lauren Shirrell-University of Iowa

Logan Henry-University of Texas/ Austin

 A total of $18,000 was awarded on May 11 to these deserving graduates.  Funding for scholarships is one of the many ways that proceeds from Art in the Square is given back to the community.
