Carroll Middle School’s newest administrator is Joey Calvillo, who was introduced to the school staff earlier this week. Calvillo has 12 years of secondary teaching experience, including eight at the middle school level. Calvillo previously taught World Geography at Keller Timber Creek High School. He replaces Stephanie Mangels, who was promoted to CMS principal in October.

Calvillo had a memorable first day on Tuesday.

“I’m so excited to join Carroll Middle School and this unbelievable district,” Calvillo said. “I couldn’t have asked for a better first day in my new position. The warmth and open arms I received from the staff and students was amazing. I will continue to strive each day to keep those high expectations within the students and myself.”

Calvillo started his career in 2001 at North Richland Middle School in Birdville ISD as a teacher/coach. He is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin and holds a Master of Education from Lamar in Beaumont.

“Mr. Calvillo’s passion for students, excitement and enthusiasm are contagious,” Mangels said. “He is a true educator at heart and he is passionate about helping students succeed not only academically but as young men and women. He will be an excellent addition to our CMS family.”

Dawson Middle School hired Christina Benhoff as assistant principal. Benhoff was formally introduced to the DMS staff Wednesday morning. She is currently the assistant principal at Walnut Grove Elementary. Benhoff will remain at Walnut Grove this spring until the transition for her replacement is complete.

“Throughout the interview process, Christina exemplified an aptitude for the relationship characteristic that’s central to our school climate,” Dawson Middle School principal Ryan Wilson said. “We have no doubt she’ll transition well.”

Benhoff, a Southern Illinois graduate, serves as the campus STAAR and textbook coordinator at Walnut Grove Elementary. She joined Carroll ISD as a teacher/coach at Carroll Middle School during the 2012-2013 school year. Before coming to Southlake, Benhoff started her teaching career in Missouri in 2008and worked as a math and writing teacher.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Carroll ISD and appreciate the opportunities that I have been given here,” Benhoff said. “I look forward to taking my next step as I transition into my new position. I am excited to share with DMS all that I have learned during my time as a Dragon.”

Benhoff earned her Master’s degree from Missouri.
