Don't be alarmed if you turn on your television and see an emergency alert notification today.

Officials at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission are conducting the first-ever nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System.

Both radio and television stations will broadcast the alert, which will occur at 1 p.m. CST. It should last for about 30 seconds.

For more information, visit the FEMA website.
