Southlake City Council, Chesapeake Energy at Odds Over Drilling Ordinance

The City of Southlake and Chesapeake Energy are at odds after the city passed a drilling ordinance that prohibits conducting hydraulic fracturing operations during summer months, according to an article on Platts.com.

The energy company said that it will allow drilling operations to expire in Southlake. Southlake Councilwoman Carolyn Morris said Chesapeake blamed the city's new ordinance instead of the more likely cause of low natural gas prices.

But according to Chesapeake Energy Vice President Julie Wilson, the city council "placed unnecessary and restrictive conditions on doing business in their city, restrictions no other municipality has imposed."

Chesapeake is now the second gas producer to decide that it does not want to operate within Southlake's city limits.
