Dragon High School boys earn come from behind lacrosse win

The 2015 edition of the Dragon High School Boys lacrosse team started their season on the road with a non-conference game at McKinney.  The game was an uphill battle for the Dragons who fell quickly to a two-goal deficit.   Senior Michael Cox tallied the first goal of the year to make it 2 to 1 at the end of the first quarter.

Early in the second period, the Dragons were penalized and McKinney took the man-up advantage to score and go up 3 to 1.  Junior Dean Dibello then scored to pull the Dragons back to within one.  McKinney then scored once before the half, and right afterwards, to extend to a 5 to 2 lead with 11 minutes left in the 3rd.

The Dragons battled back as Cox and Dibello tallied goals again to bring the Dragons back to within one goal at 5 to 4.  McKinney called a time out with 2:42 remaining in the 3rd to calm things down.  The Dragons had great face off play from Sophomore Max Towers and Senior Zach Bach.  Other Seniors include Attackmen Ryan Juraidini, Midfielders Alex Barnes, Brennan Mollere and Taylor Iniguez and Defender Josh Sommerhalder.

The Dragons took another penalty to start the 4th quarter with a man disadvantage.  The defense, led by Sophomores goalie Luke Millican and George Elmquist, Juniors Nathan Beam, Brody Danel and Jack Welding, seemed to settle down at this point and the Dragons were able to kill the penalty.

With just 4:32 remaining in the game, the Dragons gained the man-up advantage and went to work.  Dibello found Freshman Attackman Paxton Garman for the game-tying goal.  Dibello then fed Sophomore Midfielder Carson Green who put his bounce shot behind the McKinney goalie for the first Dragon lead of the game.   McKinney was penalized after the play and the Dragons held the man advantage.

Coach Bart Sullivan took a time-out with just over two minutes remaining and instructed his team to maintain possession.  The Dragons successfully ran out the clock and earned the come-from-behind win.

The Dragons will open their home schedule and District play against 2014 State Runner-Up Jesuit at Dragon Stadium.  The JV team will start at 6pm and Varsity will follow at 7:30pm.   The Dragons will travel to Austin for weekend games against Westlake and Anderson before returning home on Feb. 26th to host Keller.
