The NETT Aces, a coed tennis team comprised of players from Southlake and coached by Southlake resident Linda Hayes, captured the 14 & Under Intermediate Championship held during Thanksgiving week in Waco.

The Aces beat 11 other teams in heated competition and captured the title by the slimmest of margins, as a single game made all the difference. Teams travelled from cities including Beaumont, Amarillo and Midland.

Lindsay Marker helped pace the Aces, as she was undefeated in her six singles matches and did not even surrender a game. Riley Anderson and Christina Miano also competed on the team.

The boys side was comprised of Coleman Bond, Miles McClanahan and Ross Beazley. Colin Marker served as assistant coach.

Hayes’ other local team, the NETT Smashers, qualified for a spot in the U12 Intermediate Championships held at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels. The Smashers finished eighth in a competitive division with teams from all over Texas, including Amarillo, Abilene, Houston and San Antonio.

Brock Gaskill was awarded the Sportsmanship Award for the entire division, an award that is voted on by opposing players.
