Local Brother and Sister Growing Up On The Stage

Most parents agree that raising teenagers can be full of drama.  For one local family, drama is a way of life.  Southlake teens, Will and Amber Meagher, have grown up sharing the stage as members of STARS Theater Company.  This summer the siblings are having a blast playing one of Disney’s most famous sibling rivalries in STARS production of Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID.  Taking on the roles of King Triton and the evil Ursula, the two will light up the stage for one final bow together.

As a senior, Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID is Will’s final performance with the youth company.  Growing up on the stage, the two have performed together in several musicals including MARY POPPINS, CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, HELLO DOLLY, EVERY AFTER, THE EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES, and SEUSSICAL.  Both are students at Carroll Senior High School and, as outstanding vocalists, both are active in the choir.  Although Will graduates this year, Amber has one more year of performances with the company.  STARS Director, Lu Anne Tyson, said, “It’s been such a joy to see these two grow into such outstanding performers and great young leaders.  I’m very proud to say they are a part of STARS.”

The two began their dramatic adventure with STARS Theater Company five years ago when they participated in the ensemble of SEUSSICAL The Musical.  It was just a few months later that the two headed up the cast of THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES playing the Emperor and Empress.  Their mother, Rosa Maria, jokingly recalls, " . . . siblings playing husband and wife? That's what you call acting!"  The two have enjoyed playing a variety of roles over the years and their parents, Peter and Rosa Maria, have proudly supported every song and dance step.  Fast forward five years and they are looking forward to watching their children share the stage together in one last production, Disney's The Little Mermaid.  Rosa Maria adds, "it is so fitting that they get to play brother and sister . . ."

Mark your calendars and don't miss STARS production of Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID.   It's great family entertainment.  Show dates are June 22-24 & June 29-July 1 at Scott Hall located on the campus of First United Methodist Church in Bedford, 1245 Bedford Rd.  Call 817-925-1430 for more information or reservations.  Check out the website at www.STARSTheaterCompany.org
