Don’t ring in the New Year with a DWI.

Tarrant County is implementing its New Year's Eve “No Refusal” campaign from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. tonight and tomorrow.

During these times, participating police agencies will use search warrants to take blood specimens from people who are arrested for driving while intoxicated but refuse to take a breath test.

“Our message during this holiday season to the citizens of Tarrant County is to plan ahead, have a designated driver if they plan to consume alcohol and remember that ending up dead or in jail is a really bad way to bring in the New Year,” said Assistant District Attorney Richard Alpert.

Tarrant County recently received a $300,430 grant to expand its “No Refusal” program to include all major holidays. “No Refusal” holidays now include Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Super Bowl, Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day.

As usual, those who are arrested and charged with a DWI during a “No Refusal” holiday will have their names and ages published on the DA’s website, www.tarrantda.com.
