Don’t get lit up this Christmas and get behind the wheel.

For the first time, Tarrant County is implementing a “No Refusal” campaign over the Christmas holiday in an effort to combat drunk driving. The initiative will run from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Sunday through Tuesday.

During this time, participating police agencies will use search warrants to take blood specimens from people who are arrested for driving while intoxicated but refuse to take a breath test.

Tarrant County recently received a $300,430 grant to expand its “No Refusal” program to include all major holidays. “No Refusal” holidays now include Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Super Bowl, Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day.

The New Year's Eve “No Refusal” campaign will run from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Dec. 31-Jan. 1.

As usual, those who are arrested and charged with DWI during a “No Refusal” holiday will have their names and ages published on the DA’s website, www.tarrantda.com.
