The Dragons and Lady Dragons took 32 athletes to compete at the prestigious Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.

They participated in multiple events including the 100 M Dash with Kami Mickens and JB Copeland.  The Lady Dragons joined their male counterparts as each team competed in the Sprint Medley Relay (SMR), a race combining a 200, 200, 400 and 800 meter run.  

Following the SMR, the Dragons and Lady Dragons competed in the 1600 M race with Shelby Chapin and Elena Arriaza from the Lady Dragons and Dragons, Johnny Kemps, and Eli Canal. The Lady Dragons 4 x 100 M Relay team of Bailey Farmer, Taylor Henderson, Sarah Robinson and Kami Mickens placed sixth and earned a spot in the finals on Saturday.  

The final event of the evening garnered a first place for both the Dragons and Lady Dragons in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR).  The Lady Dragon team of Tig Archer, Kami Mickens, Katie Burnham and Courtney Kriegshauser raced brilliantly to a first place finish followed by an exciting finish of the DMR team of Joe Sansone, Aaron Hoagland, Regen Hatcher and Trevor Gilley to win first place.  

Saturday morning Connor Hendrickson secured an individual medal in the 3200 M with a time of 9:10. The Dragons and Lady Dragons raced in the 4 x 100 M Relay, followed by the Dragons and Lady Dragons competing in the 4 x 800 Relay with the Dragons earning second place with the team of Matt Odneal, Regen Hatcher, Joe Sansone and Trevor Gilley. The Lady Dragons also had one competitor in the long jump, Sarah Robinson.  

Also representing the Dragon Track & Field team were Kami Mickens in the 4 x 400 M Relay, Sarah Robinson in the 100 Hurdles, 300 Hurdles, Long Jump and 4 x 400 M Relay, Taylor Henderson in the 4 x 400 & 200 M Relay, Kyra Maryland in three events; High Jump, 4 x 100 M Relay and the 200 M Dash and Lauren Harris in the 100 Hurdles and 4 x 200 M Relay. The Lady Dragons are always strong in the distance events with Courtney Kriegshauser in the 800 M and 3200 M race. Courtney is the 2012 1600 M State Champion. Shelby Chapin competed in the 1600 M and 3200 M along with teammate Elena Arriaza. Freshman Tig Archer participated in three events, 800 M, 1600 M and 3200 M for the Lady Dragons.

“The Lady Dragons are likely to repeat as District Champions in 2013,” said Lady Dragon Coach Renae Osborne. “A strong presence in the distance events along with a strong hurdle and 4 x 400 team, and long jumpers will lead the Lady Dragons to a consecutive District Championships.”

The district meet is up next in Keller on April 10 and 11.
