The Southlake Carroll Varsity Boys and Girls captured team titles at the Ninth Annual Southlake Invitational at Meadowmere Park in Grapevine. The meet kicked off at sunrise with a new double loop course, which was great for the hundreds of spectators. The top five Varsity Boys and top three Varsity Girls finished with qualifying times for the National Silver Team. The Junior Varsity Dragon Girls ran away with first place, and the JV Dragon Boys took third place.

“Our boys and girls teams had some great performances today at the Southlake Invitational. This was a new course for everyone, and we ran well,” said Southlake Carroll Head Coach Justin Leonard. “This event hosted over 1,700 runners and a special thanks to all of the volunteers, parents, sponsors, runners and coaches that helped make this event great.”

Dragon Varsity Wins at Southlake Invitational

The Varsity Boys were led by senior Jacob Pickle, placing second with a new 5K PR of 15:28, third-place Connor Hendrickson (15:39) and Eli Canal grabbed fifth (15:45) to finish in the top ten out of 212 runners.  Johnny Kemps finished strong in 19th place (16:15), and with an impressive PR of 16:21, senior Brent Aydon took 25th place to complete the top five Carroll runners for a team score of 50 points. Keller High followed with 93 team points, and third place went to Lewisville Hebron with 111 team points.

The Varsity Girls was led by fifth-place Antigone Archer (18:34), senior Katie Burnham, who placed seventh (18:40) and Sam Young, who closely followed in eighth (18:41) to place in the top ten of 175 varsity runners. Moriah Dadson placed 22nd (19:52), and with a gusty performance was sophomore Kayli Jones, who took 24th place with a 20:03 to complete the five scoring positions. Lewisville Hebron finished second, and New Braunsfels took third in the Varsity Girls race.

The JV Boys team was led by Jake Oldroyd (17:50) and the JV Girls team by Chantal Van der Westhuizen (21:36).
