Dragons make an impact on local T99 lacrosse showcase - with nine attendees and multiple All-Stars.
Entering its 12th year, the Texas Top 99, or T99, lacrosse showcase event featured some of the top players in the State. T99 represents the top high-school recruiting event in the state and is coordinated by a talented group of coaches including Jack Sandler, the Head Coach at Colby College and Director of Texas Top 99, Gerry Byrne, Notre Dame Assistant Coach, and Ryan Wellner, Navy Assistant Coach.
The Dragons attending the showcase included Sophmores long-stick midfielder Brody Danel and attackman Holt Stairs.
Representing the Freshman class were goalies Eryk Ross and Luke Millican, defenseman George Elmquist, long-stick midfielder Nick Donfris, midfielder A.J. Van den Dyssel, and Attackmen Carson Green and Casey Wasserman.
The event, which was held at the Greenhill School in Addison, Texas, combines players from all areas onto teams coached by Division 3 coaches. Each team played 5 games over the weekend. In addition, there were sessions on Recruiting, Strength and Conditioning, Skill development with a variety of coaches, and an example of film study and breakdown. As the players were broken up into teams, no team had more than two Dragon players and in several instances the players found themselves going up against their teammates.
Following the 5 games, there is an All-Star game featuring selected players from all teams as voted on by coaches and recruiters. The Dragons were well represented as Donfris and Green played for the White Team. Millican, Van den Dyssel and Wasserman lead the Red team in the final exhibition.
Over 150 college coaches and recruiters were said to be in attendance. Due to current NCAA regulations, the Division 1 coaches are not able to engage with potential underclass recruits. This restriction does not extend to the D3, so the players received coaching for their teams from current D3 coaches.
