A 41-year-old man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for shooting a woman he had become obsessed with and a man who had taken her out on a date.

Jurors deliberated less than 30 minutes in convicting Finnis Davis II of attempted capital murder for shooting Saudi Taylor and Oscar Roney, who miraculously survived.

During the trial, prosecutors Bill Vassar and David Hagerman presented evidence that Davis became obsessed with Taylor, who was not interested in having a romantic relationship with him.

He repeatedly called and texted her, demanding to know where she was, who she was with and what she was doing. In the 48-hour period before the shooting, Davis texted her 163 times.

“Am sorry abt what I said abt killn u I wil leave u b 4 I hurt,” read one of the texts. “But if u care about me u need 2 take back what u said 2 me. Do u feel me. I wanna a real woman. ”

On the night of May 4, 2010, Davis was backed into the driveway of Taylor’s Fort Worth home when she returned home from a first date with Roney.

When Taylor saw Davis’ vehicle, she told Roney to keep driving, but Davis gave chase and started shooting. Roney was shot once behind the ear and Taylor was shot in the leg.

As Taylor tried to run, Davis caught up with her and pistol whipped her before he fled the scene.

During his trial, which was presided over by visiting state district Judge Elizabeth Berry, Davis was unruly towards his attorneys, the jury and the judge.

He was removed from the courtroom several times and had to stay in the holdover cell for part of his trial because of his disruptive behavior. He was later outfitted with a shock belt around his leg.

The jury deliberated just 18 minutes in assessing his 50-year sentence.
