8 Troubleshooting Tips to Prevent Grill Maintenance in Southlake

Holiday cookouts for friends and families put a lot of grills to the test over the July 4 weekend. Did you get hot under the collar because dinner was late or you missed the Southlake Stars and Stripes celebration or the Fireworks Extravanganza on Lake Grapevine thanks to problems with your fancy grill? Before you call a Wolf factory-certified service partner, like C&W Appliance Service, try troubleshooting the problem using these 8 tips.

Burners will not operate?

  • Push the burner control knob in and verify that the igniter glows. If not, check to see that the grill is plugged into a 120V AC electrical outlet and that the GFCI has not been tripped.
  • For now, light the burners manually.
  • Purge the fuel line of trapped air.

Burner flame is yellow and you can smell gas?

  • Inspect grill burners for obstructions such as nesting spiders and insects.
  • Contact your Wolf factory-certified service professional or the gas supplier to check for a gas leak.

Burners do not provide enough heat?

  • Check for a proper gas supply or check your propane tank to make sure it’s not empty.
  • Make sure that the gas supply hose isn’t bent or kinked.
  • Check for nesting spiders and insects in the grill burners.
  • Remember to preheat the grill for 10 minutes before you plan to cook.

Burner flame blows out?

  • See that the grill is getting the right level of gas or check the propane tank to make sure it isn’t empty.
  • Provide a wind block if your cooking area is exposed to high winds.

Excessive flare-ups occur?

  • Clean the burner grates with a damp grill brush
  • Cooking heavily marbled or fatty meat may cause drips to fall into the flames.
  • Ensure that cooking temperatures are not too high.

Interior or control knob lights will not operate?

  • Check that the unit is plugged into a 120V AC electrical outlet and that the GFCI has not been tripped.
  • Replace the bulb.

Hot surface igniter will not operate?

  • Verify that the grill is plugged into a 120V AC electrical outlet and that the GFCI has not been tripped.

Thermometer not reaching high temperatures?

  • Operate grill on high for 10 to 12 minutes with the hood closed to reach higher temperatures.

Once your Wolf grill is performing at its usual peak levels, then try this recipe for searing in the flavor of flank steaks. Enjoy!

GRILLED FLANK STEAK

2 flank steaks

1 tablespoon onion powder

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon chili powder

2 teaspoons cumin

2 teaspoons black pepper

2 teaspoons kosher salt

1 lime zested and juiced

4 tablespoons vegetable oil

To marinate the flank steaks: In a small bowl, mix all dry ingredients. Mix in the lime zest and lime juice. Drizzle on the vegetable oil and stir to make a marinade. Place each flank steak in a separate plastic bag and divide the marinade between them. Seal the bags and work the marinade into the flank steaks until they are evenly coated. Let sit for 30 minutes.

To prepare the flank steaks: Over the sear burner set to HI, grill the flank steaks 5 minutes per side, turning once or until desired internal doneness is reached. Try making fajitas by severing the flank steak with tortillas and grilled vegetables. Makes 6-8 servings. Enjoy!
