A Southlake police officer was recognized for doing a good deed at Tuesday's city council meeting.

Canine Officer Nate Anderson received a Commendation Award from Police Chief Stephen Mylett for going above and beyond the call of duty.

According to the Southlake Department of Public Safety, Officer Anderson recently noticed a stranded woman who was found sleeping in her vehicle in Town Square. The woman told him that she could not find an organization that could help her, so she tried to find a safe location to sleep in her vehicle for the night. Officer Anderson made sure she had a hot meal, paid for a hotel room, filled her car up with gas, and gave her some money for food out of his own pocket. He also put her in contact with several churches and organizations he hoped could help her.

Mayor John Terrell presented Officer Andersen with the award on Tuesday evening.
