I received a disturbing email today with a letter to Dr. Shafi attached from Mr. John Terrell, Mayor of Southlake. He alleges that it is "unlawful" of Dr. Shafi to post "No Apartments" signs around town. Southlake residents have a right to know that the Southlake City Council is considering (Harbor Chase Assisted Living) and approving (Watermere and Southlake Town Square Brownstones) high density housing developments. Most residents oppose this concept. I am a 15-year resident off Shady Oaks and I banded together over 100 neighbors to oppose the Harbor Chase Assisted Living Facility.

Many residents moved to this area with certain expectations and the fact that the city council can call these types of housing anything but APARTMENTS is ludicrous and politics at it's absolute worst! By simple definition, an apartment is "a room or suite of rooms designed as a residence and generally located in a building occupied by more than one household."  The fact that these high density housing units are sold for over a half million dollars makes them no more favorable to our community. And, the fact that they were approved in 1997 does not mean residents should give up the right to prevent further high density housing from getting approved in Southlake.

I was at a recent town hall meeting where Martin Schelling attempted to deceive the general public into believing these high density housing plans are, and I quote, "not apartments." Clearly, he is motivated to consider these high density housing plans.

Many Southlake residents are trying to "protect the future of Southlake" by upholding the planning and zoning standards we all envisioned for our community. Protecting what makes this community truly unique; an affluent suburb with ONLY single dwelling homes where families value their property and investment. If residents did not value this aspect of Southlake, they would not choose to pay the high city taxes and they would live in any other city here in DFW.

I am appalled Mr. Terrell would use his power as Mayor to "spin" such an important topic to Southlake residents to his own benefit and openly support one candidate, essentially "trashing" another qualified and willing candidate in the process.
