Carroll XC Races against National Powerhouses

Dragon Boys Finish Fourth; Cox Leads Girls to Fifth-Place Finish

 

NORCO, CA – Southlake Carroll’s top boys and girls cross country runners traveled to Southern California to compete against some of the top high school programs in the country at the 3-mile Woodbridge XC Classic on Saturday evening. Both teams held their own – the boys finished fourth in the top “sweepstakes” division, while the girls came in fifth.

 

“Our young men and women took on some of the powerhouse high school teams in the country tonight, and they proved they could compete with the best of the best,” Southlake Carroll Head Coach Justin Leonard said. “They rose to the challenge and raced well.”

 

In the boys “sweepstakes” race, junior Hunter Hill led the way with a time of 14:52, finishing 45th overall. Junior David Fisher came in 60th in an even 15 minutes, followed by junior Robert Freeman (62nd, 15:01), sophomore Jude Alvarez (79th, 15:12) and junior Logan Cantu (91st, 15:18). Senior Welles McDevitt (118th, 15:33) and junior Vivek Reddy (144th, 15:45) rounded out the Dragons finishers.

 

Senior Kaylie Cox finished 15th overall in the girls “sweepstakes” race, crossing the finish line in 16:42. Junior Ava Bushaw finished 75th in 17:43, followed by sophomore Sylvia Schwedler (80th, 17:50), junior Audrey Dunn (90th, 17:56), sophomore Alexandra Walsh (94th, 17:59), junior Natalie Ng (133rd, 18:28) and senior Olivia Jones (182nd, 19:23).

 

In the “rated” competition, junior Mia Tesoriero ran a 17:40, good for fifth place overall and leading the Dragon girls to a fifth-place team finish. Freshman Elizabeth Smith was next, finishing 39th in 18:17, followed by junior Anna Hall (68th, 18:42) and sophomore Julia Gassett and senior Kristin Mader, who finished 82nd and 83rd with identical times of 18:52. Seniors McKaylee McAdoo (101st, 19:06) and Lauren Lund (118th, 19:20) rounded out the Dragons finishers.

 

On the boys side, junior Tyler Ortiz was the Dragons top runner in the “rated” race, finishing 63rd overall with a time of 15:33, leading the boys to a ninth-place team finish. Junior David Fisher was next at 67th, with an identical time, followed by junior Jack Litwin (78th, 15:44), seniors Aidan Denk (83rd, 15:48) and Blayne Williams (97th, 15:53) and freshman Blake Bullard (125th, 16:10).

 

The Dragons’ top runners will return to action on Saturday, October 2, at the University of Arkansas Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville.
