Southlake, TX (September 8, 2018) – The 14th Annual Southlake Invitational was held Saturday at Bob Jones Park in Southlake, Texas. Despite heavy downpours, the first three races were completed until field flooding caused the remaining races to be cancelled.  This event has become one of the state’s supreme races, hosting teams from around the state and neighboring states with over 3,000 runners attending.  Even with the very challenging conditions, Southlake Carroll came to compete with the Boys Varsity Elite and Girls Varsity teams grabbing 1st place and the Girls Varsity Elite team placing 3rd.   

 

Carroll Cross Country Head Coach Justin Leonard said, “We are extremely pleased with the way our athletes responded to today’s conditions. Anyone can run fast when the conditions are ideal but the sign of a champion is when they can block it out and complete the goal. I wish we could have run all the races but sometimes unexpected things happen.”

 

Dragon Elite Varsity Boys Take 1st Place

 

The Elite Varsity Boys team placed first led by Nate Lannen, finishing 7th overall at 16:44.  Following Nate was Henry Gardner in 12th at 16:57, Drew Bliss in 13th at 16:57, Jack Myers in 23rd at 17:19 and Steven Torres in 25th at 17:26.  Rounding out the top seven for the team were Tim McElaney in 30th (17:37) and Kieran Beirne in 34th at (17:42).  There were 234 finishers in the race. 

 

 

Dragon Elite Varsity Girls Take 3rd Place

 

The Varsity Elite Girls team was led by Sophomore Grace Williamson placing 24th overall at 20:09.  Right behind Grace was Payton Wickman in 25th at 20:09, followed by Lydia Lo in 27th at 20:10, Sofia Santamaria in 28th at 20:11 and Jenna Holland placing 30th rounding out the top five scoring positions at 20:12.  Kate Reppeto (20:13) and Abigail McIlvain (20.26) placed 31st and 36th respectively.  Of the 215 participants, there were 163 finishers in the Varsity Elite girls’ race.

 

 Dragon Varsity Girls Take 1st Place 

 

The Varsity Girls finished with an impressively low score of just 25 points and were led by sophomore Kaitlyn Rodysill who placed 1st overall in the race at 21:36. Next in was Laurel Hook at 22:12 placing 4th, followed by Riley Lackey in 7th at 22:19, Rachel Nguyen in 10th at 22:25, and Nikoletta Shockly in 11th at 22:30.   Rounding out the top seven finishers were Olivia Jones in 12th at 22:31 and Madalyn Wardin in 17th at 22:48.   

 

The Carroll Cross Country Varsity Teams will be traveling to California to compete in the Woodbridge XC Classic in Norco, CA next Saturday.

Denton, Texas (September 1, 2018) – The Southlake Carroll Cross Country teams were in the hunt for dominance at the Marcus I Invitational meet in Denton’s North Lakes Park on Saturday.  With demanding competition, the teams worked to meet the challenge of their first 5k of the season. Between the boys and girls’ teams, 14 finished as National Elites*.

 

Coach Justin Leonard commented, "Marcus 1 is typically our team’s first 5k of the season. It’s a great measuring stick to see where we are at as a team and individually. We are pleased with the way the teams competed but also realize we have some room to grow and develop. Next week is our home meet and we are excited to host 3,000 runners from around the state and even a few out of state teams as well."

 

The Dragons took 2nd place in the Varsity Boys Elite race with Nate Lannen placing 10th overall for the team with a time of 15:43, followed by Steven Torres in 24th at 16:05, Drew Bliss in 31st at 16:13, Henry Gardner in 35th at 16:18, and Vishnu Nair in 45th at 16:26 to finish out the five scoring positions.  Antonio Florcruz and Jack Meyers finishing 50th and 51st, both with a time of 16:29, completed the top seven for the team. 

 

The Varsity Boys Open team also took second place on Saturday.  Tim EcElaney led his team with a 2nd place finish at 16:36, followed by Grant Anderson in 7th at 16:44, Lucas Levant in 12th at 17:06, Matthew Sims in 13th at 17:07 and Duncan Brown in 19th at 17:14, completing the top five scorers.  Brett Gilley and Bradly Heidebrecht rounded out the top seven. 

 

The Varsity Girls Elite team came away with a 5th place finish, led by Sofia Santamaria in 23rd at 19:04, followed by Katherine McElaney in 43rd at 19:29, Grace Williamson in 44th at 19:31, Tatum Foreman in 47th at 19:33, and Payton Wichman in 48th at 19:34 to finish the top five scoring positions.  Kate Reppeto (19:38) and Lydia Lo (19:40) completed the top seven for the team. 

 

The Varsity Girls Open team took 2nd place and was led by Lauren Langenberg coming in 4th overall for the team at 19:59, followed by Abigail McIlvain in 5th at 20:03, Laurel Hook in 9th at 20:17, Erin Fritz in 15th at 20:37 and Madalyn Wardin in 28th at 21:02 rounding out the top five scorers.  Alexa Karmis and Caitlyn Midkiff completed the top seven for the team. 

 

Southlake Carroll’s JV teams truly dominated the field, taking 1st in both the boys and girls JV Elite and JV Open divisions.  The JV Elite Boys came away with a low score of just 22 points taking 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th overall while the JV Elite girls finished with 35 points with scorers in the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 8th and 12th positions overall.   

 

The Dragons runners will be hosting the Southlake Invitational meet next Saturday, September 8th at Bob Jones Park in Southlake.

The Woodlands, Texas and Carrollton, Texas (August 24th) – The Dragon Boys Teams came away big nabbing 1st place finishes in each of their four races to kick off the season.  The Girls Teams came away with strong results earning 3rd and 4th place finishes in the Woodlands and 2nd place finishes in each of the races in Carrollton. 

 

Friday Night Lights (Woodlands) – Varsity Elite

 

The Carroll Boys Elite Varsity A team took 1st place in this fast 4000-meter race with Nate Lannen leading the team followed by Steven Torres, Drew Bliss, Hayden Coleman, Jack Myers, Kieran Beirne and Antonio Florcruz rounding out the top 7 for the team.  The Boys Elite Varsity B team, also racing the 4000-meter course, won top honors as well placing 1st in their race with Matthew Sims leading, followed by Grant Anderson, Tim Mcelaney, Lucas Levant, Bradley Heidebrecht and Nicolas Arriaza rounding out the team. 

 

The Girls Elite Varsity A team came away with a 3rd place finish with Lydia Lo leading the team followed by Sofia Santamaria, Grace Williamson, Jenna Holland, Payton Wichman, Tatum Foreman and Kate Reppeto rounding out the top seven for the team in their 2-mile race.  The Girls Elite Varsity B team, also racing in the 2-mile, placed 4th and was led by Laurel Hook, followed by Erin Fritz, Madalyn Wardin and Alexa Karmis with Kaitlyn Midkiff rounding out their team.   

 

 

Friday Night Hawk Invite (Carrollton) – Varsity & JV

 

Southlake Carroll had teams competing in both the Varsity and JV divisions at the Friday Night Hawk Invite.  In their 2-mile races, both the Boys Varsity and JV teams came away with 1st places finishes, while the Girls Varsity and JV teams landed 2nd place finishes in each of their 2-mile races.  

 

Head Cross Country Coach Justin Leonard commented, “We are very proud of the way our kids competed in our opening meets.  It’s always nice to finally get to race some of teams and individuals after a long summer of running against teammates.  We are pleased with the results but we realize there is still a lot of work to be done in order to achieve our goals for the end of the season.  It’s a long season but the ability to come to practice each day with a desire to improve is going to be the key to our success this season.”

NIKE CROSS NATIONALS

 Portland, OR (December 2, 2017) –Southlake Cross Country & Track Club’s top 7 boys and top 7 girls teams competed against the best runners in the nation at Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon on Saturday.  The girls came away with 20th in the nation and the boys took 19th in the nation. This is the 14th year that Nike has hosted this prestigious meet for the top two boys and top two girl’s teams in each of the eight regions around the country.  Rainy and chilly temperatures in the mid-40’s were familiar conditions for these runners as they navigated the race at the Glendover Golf Course filled with hills and plenty of mud.

 

The girl’s team entered the race as the South Region champions and placed 20th overall on Saturday.  Cate Tracht was first to cross the line for the girl’s team coming in 112th at 19:35.  Next to finish was Sofia Santamaria in 124th at 19:45, Sarah McCabe in 133rd at 19:55, Lauren Esparza placed 156th with a time of 20:13 and Angie Riera finished in 160th at 20:21.  Completing the lineup was Cristina Canal in 175th at 20:39 and Kate Reppeto in 194th at 21:18.    

 

The boy’s team entered the race as the second place finisher from Nike South Regionals placing 19th overall in the National race on Saturday.  The team was led by Juan Arcila in 107th at 16:28, followed by Jackson Felkins in 110th at 16:30, Jack Myers in 136th at 16:42, Vishnu Nair in 145th at 16:51 and Connor Rutledge in 162nd at 16:59.  Completing the boys team were Enzo Mortimer in 171st at 17:10 and Drew Bliss in 184 at 17:21. 

 

Head Coach Justin Leonard commented, “We are extremely proud of our runners and the season they’ve had.  To be able to end their season at NXN is an accomplishment that only 21 other schools in the U.S. can do.  We would like to thank our school, parents and community for the support.  We are excited about the future as well and we will begin that journey tomorrow.”

GIRLS FINISH 1ST, BOYS TAKE 2nd

AT NIKE CROSS REGIONALS

BOTH TEAMS HEADED TO NIKE NATIONALS

The Woodlands, TX (November 18, 2017) – The championship boys and girls Southlake Cross Country & Track Club teams both earned a trip once again to the Nike Cross Nationals meet in Portland, OR on December 2nd in this highly competitive Nike Regionals club meet.  The girls’ team with just 68 points took 1st place ahead of Keller while the boys’ team finished in 2nd place with 88 points behind Flower Mound.  This marks the 12th trip for the girls and the 11th trip for the boys to the Nationals meet in Portland. The Nike Regional meet includes teams from five states and only the top two teams from this and each regional meet around the country qualify for the Nike Nationals meet.  The remaining runners from the Southlake XC and Track Club ran in the open races with some impressive results, most notably a 1st and 2nd place finish for the Girls A & B teams in the Open 1 race and a 2nd place finish for the Boys in the Open 1 race.

Head Coach Justin Leonard said, “We are so proud of all 122 runners that competed this weekend at Nike South Regionals.  Our runners came to compete and we as a program came away with two first place team finishes and two second place team finishes. I’m so excited that our seniors will be able to end their high school XC careers on a national stage in Portland, OR.”

The championship girls’ team was led by Senior Cate Tracht who came in 7th place overall, followed by Sarah McCabe who captured 9th place, with Sofia Santamaria coming in right behind her in 10th.  Angie Riera finished in the 18th spot and Kate Reppeto in 24th to round out the scorers.  Lauren Esparza (27th) and Cristina Canal (64th) also competed for the Southlake Girls’ team.   

The championship boys’ team was led by Senior Juan Arcila who came in 6th overall.  He was followed by Jackson Felkins in 12th, Vishnu Nair in 16th, Jack Meyers in 22nd and Enzo Mortimer finishing out the scoring positions coming in 32nd.  Drew Bliss (57th) and Connor Rutledger (76th) rounded out the top 7 runners for the Southlake team.

CARROLL DRAGON BOYS TAKE 2ND PLACE

At The State Championship Meet

Round Rock, TX (November 4, 2017) – The Southlake Carroll Boys Cross Country Team earned a 2nd place finish and the Girls earned a 3rd place finish at the Class 6A State Championship in Round Rock, TX.  Even with warm and humid temperatures and a challenging course at Old Settler’s Park, both the boys and girls came away with podium finishes.

 Head Cross Country Coach Justin Leonard said, “We are extremely proud of the performance and effort that our kids poured into their race today. The kids set a goal last year and put themselves in position to be at their best. It has been a great season and I’m honored to be a part of their journey and part of their lives.”

 For the boys it was a repeat of last year’s state meet with the team coming away in 2nd place with 94 points behind The Woodlands who scored 88 points.  Junior Jack Myers came in 13th overall; following right behind him was Jackson Felkins in 14th with Juan Arcila crossing the line in 16th.  Connor Rutledge was next to finish in 23rd and Enzo Mortimer rounded out the scoring positions in 28th place.  Vishnu Nair finished in 41st place and Drew Bliss took 82nd, completing the varsity team.  Six of the runners met Elite Performance Standards with times of 16:30 or less.

 The Lady Dragons in a very tight race placed 3rd with 130 points behind Lewisville Hebron (with 122 points) and ahead of Flower Mound (with 141 points.)  Keller placed 1st overall.  The girls’ team was led by Junior Sofia Santamaria in 17th, followed by Sarah McCabe in 26th, Cate Tracht in 27th, Angie Riera in 29th, and finishing out the scoring positions was Kate Reppeto in 31st.  Lauren Esparza finished in 43rd and Cristina Canal came in 61st to complete the varsity team.  All seven girls met Elite Performance Standards with times of 19:45 or less.

Lubbock, TX (October 23, 2017) – The Carroll Girls and Boys Cross Country teams advanced to the State Championship race after placing 3rd in the boys race and 2nd in the girls race.  For the 8th consecutive year, the boy’s team has earned a state meet bid, and for the 21st consecutive year, the lady dragons earned a spot in the championship state race. Despite the tough 3-mile course at Mae Simmons Park, known for its steep hills and tight turns, the Dragon runners came out strong and persevered.

 Head Coach Justin Leonard said, “We are excited about our performance today.  Our goal today was to punch our ticket for the state meet and we did that. We are now focused on our main goal and that is to be at our best on November 4th.  We would also like to thank the parents of our athletes, school and community for all of your continued support throughout our season.”

 Juan Arcila led the boys’ team placing 15th overall with a time of 15:23.  Jack Myers was next coming in 29th place, Connor Rutledge came in right behind in 30th, followed directly by Enzo Mortimer in 31st and Drew Bliss finished out the scoring positions in 35th place.  Vishnu Nair (46th) and Jackson Felkins (53) also competed.  Along with the Dragon boys’ team (scoring 126 points), El Paso Eastwood (taking 1st with 55 points), Flower Mound (taking 2nd with 76 points) and Wylie High (in 4th with 158 points) will all advance to the Championship State Meet.

Leading for the Lady Dragons was Cate Tracht placing 13th overall with a time of 17:57.  Sofia Santamaria crossed the line right behind in 14th, followed directly by Sarah McCabe in 15th.  Next to finish was Angie Riera in 30th, with Kate Reppeto in 35th to complete the scoring runners.  Cristina Canal (61st) and Lauren Esparza (66th) also competed.  The girls’ team (placing 2nd with 67 points) is moving to the state meet along with Keller (placing 1st with 28 points), Flower Mound (in 3rd with 73 points), and Lewisville Hebron (in 4th with 106 points).

JV Teams Take Top Honors

At UIL 6A – District 5 Championship Meet

 

Southlake, TX (October 14, 2017) – The Dragon Varsity Boys Team took 1st place while the Varsity Girls placed 3rd in this tremendously competitive UIL 6A – District 5 Meet, earning the Varsity teams a spot in the Regional meet in Lubbock .  The Boys had a low score of just 36 points, placing 9 points ahead of the next team.  The Girls race couldn’t have been any closer with the top three teams coming within just one point of each another.  Both JV Teams dominated the field taking 1st place and showing the depth of the Carroll team.  The top 3 schools in the varsity boys and girls divisions advance to the Regional meet in Lubbock on October 23rd.

Southlake Carroll Head Coach Justin Leonard said, “We knew coming into the district meet that it was going to be extremely competitive.  Our goal is to qualify for the next meet and run our best on November 4th.  Survive and advance.  I’m extremely proud of the way our kids stepped up and ran -- onto the next one.”

The Varsity Dragon Boys dominated their race with 4 of the runners placing in the top 10 and the team scoring only 36 points.  Junior Jack Myers led the boys’ team taking 4th place with a time of 15:49.  Jackson Felkins took 5th place running a 15:53, Juan Arcila came in 7th with 15:59, Connor Rutledge came in 9th with a time of 16:04 and Vishnu Nair finished out the scoring positions in 11th place running 16:10.  Enzo Mortimer and Drew Bliss also competed, taking the 12th and 16th places respectively.

The Varsity Lady Dragons finished strong with Senior Cate Tracht leading the team and placing 2nd overall with a time of 18:01.  Next to cross the line was Sofia Santamaria in 12th running an 18:47, followed by Kate Reppeto in 14th at 19:04, Sarah McCabe in 15th at 19:09 and Cristina Canal finishing the scoring positions coming in 18th at 19:14.  Lauren Esparza and Angie Riera also competed for the Lady Dragon team, finishing 19th and 20th respectively

 

JV Dragons Reign Supreme 

The JV Dragon boys ran an impressive race taking 1st place with a very low score of 21 points and had 8 runners finishing in the top 10 overall.  The team was led by Sophomore Nate Lannen finishing in 1st place overall, followed by Noah Castro in 2nd, Everett Kolto in 5th, Lucas Levant  in 6th and rounding out the scoring positions was Antonio Florcruz in 7th.  Duncan Brown (8th), Chase Fisher (9th), Oliver Arandia (10th), Tim McElaney (14th) and Nick Arriaza (16th) completed the top 10 spots for the Dragons.   

The JV Lady Dragons showed how deep their talent goes by nabbing the top seven finishing positions overall and with a perfect score of 15, sweeping the race.  Leading for the Lady Dragons was Sophomore Rima Toure taking 1st, followed by Grace Williamson in 2nd, Lydia Lo in 3rd, Shreya Veeravelli in 4th, and rounding out the scoring positions was Abigail McIlvain in 5th place.  Payton Wichman (6th), Rachel Nguyen (7th), Katherine McElaney (9th), Jenna Holland (12th) and Alexa Karmis (14th) completed the top 10 positions for the Lady Dragons.

 In two weeks, the Southlake Carroll Cross Country Varsity teams will compete at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock in the highly competitive Regional Meet.

Dragon Runners Come Out On Top

at the Falcon Fast Invitational

Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys Place 1st

JV Girls and JV Boys Also Take 1st Place

 

Keller, TX (September 30, 2017) – With the cancellation of the Carroll Dragons’ Varsity races in Round Rock, TX, the entire team competed locally at the Falcon Fast Invitational.  Each of the Varsity and JV Teams came away with big results placing 1st in all races. 

 The varsity boy’s, coming in 1st place with 50 points, were led by Jack Meyers finishing in 6th place overall with a time of 16:00.  Right behind Jack was Jackson Felkins in 7th at 16:02.  Next to cross the line was Connor Rutledge in 8th at 16:06.  Completing the scoring positions for the day was Juan Arcila in 12th at 16:13 and Vishnu Nair in 17th at 16:18. 

 The varsity girls’ team came away with a 1st place finish, with Sofia Santamaria leading the Lady Dragons taking 10th place overall at 18:27.  Next in line was Cate Tracht in 14th at 18:40, followed by Sarah McCabe in 19th at 19:00.  Cristina Canal was next to cross the line at 19:06 in 23rd place and rounding out the scoring positions was Angie Riera in 26th at 19:10. 

 The JV Boys team took 1st place with a very impressive low score of 18 points.  Not to be outdone, the JV Girls also placed 1st with an equally impressive low team score of 17 points.  The boys had finishers in the top two places overall while the girls took the top 3 finishing positions. 

 Head Cross Country Coach Justin Leonard commented, “All four of our teams ran a great race this past weekend.  This was our last meet before our district meet so it was important that we came out and had a strong performance.  Our runners have been putting in some hard weeks of training and now it’s time for us to focus on gearing up for our qualification races.  We have put in the work now it’s time to have fun.”

 Corpus Christi and Grapevine, Texas (September 23, 2017) – As the top Southlake Carroll Dragon runners prepare for next week, the remaining team split up with a portion of the runners traveling to Corpus Christi for the annual Texas A&M-Islander Splash Invitational where the girls took 2nd place and the boys came away with a 3rd place finish in the 6A Varsity Division. The rest of the boys and girls team competed at the Coppell Invitational held  at Meadowmere Park in Grapevine.

Leading the Lady Dragons to their 2nd place finish in Corpus was Grace Williamson placing 9th overall (21:29).  Next was Abigail McIlvain (21:41) in 14th, Katherine McElaney (21:48) in 19th place, Laurel Hook (22:21) in 23rd, and in 28th was Caitlyn Midkiff (22:36).

 The boys came away with a 3rd place finish and were led by Duncan Brown (17:55) placing 7th overall.  Next was Grant Anderson (18:12) in 17th, Bradley Heidebrecht (18:19) in 22nd, Ryan Odneal (18:52) in 50th and Oliver Arandia (18:53) in 53rd to round out the top 5.

 Coppell Invitational

Carroll Cross Country had teams compete in the JV division of the meet in Grapevine with the Girls team finishing 5th and the Boys placing 6th.   First to cross the line for the girls was Jenna Laverock (23:44) in 21st, next was Kathryn Reilley (24:27) in 29th, Reese Duggan (24:28) in 30th, Ava Chadd (24:37) in 34th and Morgan Potter (24:51) in 42nd.  Leading the boys was Brett Walker (19:17) in 41st, Brian McCarthy (19:23) in 43rd, Michael Chambless (19:33) in 50th, Thomas Drefs (19:33) in 51st and in 52nd was Bennett Woolsey (19:36).

Carroll Cross Country Head Coach Justin Leonard commented, “We are proud of the way our program and teams competed this weekend at the Islander Splash and Coppell Invite. The teams were able to gain some valuable experience that will hopefully pay dividends next weekend and ultimately at the district meet. We have one meet remaining until district so it's time to focus on the little things and get ready to run fast when it matters the most.”

The Dragons are back on the course next Saturday with the Varsity teams traveling to the highly competitive Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, AR and the JV Dragon runners competing in Keller at the Timbercreek Invitational.
