STATE BOUND FOR BOYS & GIRLS

Boys Place 3rd & Girls Place 2nd

Lubbock, TX (October 23, 2017) – The Carroll Girls and Boys Cross Country teams advanced to the State Championship race after placing 3^rd in the boys race and 2^nd in the girls race.  For the 8^th consecutive year, the boy’s team has earned a state meet bid, and for the 21st consecutive year, the lady dragons earned a spot in the championship state race. Despite the tough 3-mile course at Mae Simmons Park, known for its steep hills and tight turns, the Dragon runners came out strong and persevered.

 Head Coach Justin Leonard said, “We are excited about our performance today.  Our goal today was to punch our ticket for the state meet and we did that. We are now focused on our main goal and that is to be at our best on November 4^th.  We would also like to thank the parents of our athletes, school and community for all of your continued support throughout our season.”

 Juan Arcila led the boys’ team placing 15^th overall with a time of 15:23.  Jack Myers was next coming in 29^th place, Connor Rutledge came in right behind in 30^th, followed directly by Enzo Mortimer in 31^st and Drew Bliss finished out the scoring positions in 35^th place.  Vishnu Nair (46^th) and Jackson Felkins (53) also competed.  Along with the Dragon boys’ team (scoring 126 points), El Paso Eastwood (taking 1^st with 55 points), Flower Mound (taking 2^nd with 76 points) and Wylie High (in 4^th with 158 points) will all advance to the Championship State Meet.

Leading for the Lady Dragons was Cate Tracht placing 13^th overall with a time of 17:57.  Sofia Santamaria crossed the line right behind in 14^th, followed directly by Sarah McCabe in 15^th.  Next to finish was Angie Riera in 30^th, with Kate Reppeto in 35^th to complete the scoring runners.  Cristina Canal (61^st) and Lauren Esparza (66^th) also competed.  The girls’ team (placing 2^nd with 67 points) is moving to the state meet along with Keller (placing 1^st with 28 points), Flower Mound (in 3^rd with 73 points), and Lewisville Hebron (in 4^th with 106 points).
