The winter months may be a slow time for the housing market, but there are a few tips and tricks that can help your home stand out during the holidays. 

Create a Cozy Atmosphere
The holidays are the ultimate time for family and friends, so create a warm, comfortable atmosphere where buyers can imagine their family hosting a gathering.  Scents like freshly-baked cookies, apple cider and cinnamon surround buyers’ senses with an inviting, cozy atmosphere. 

Keep Up Your Curb Appeal
With cold temperatures and winter weather, your yard probably won’t be in top shape, however, keeping a tidy, clean yard is always a good idea for creating curb appeal in the winter.  Make sure any leaves are raked up and removed, as well as any fallen tree limbs or branches.  Also, since bare trees leave your home more exposed to the street, touch up paint on the house and keep gutters clean. 

Decorate Your Home for the Season
Just like when creating a cozy atmosphere, buyers respond to situations that could be a fit for their family.  Decorate your home to match the holiday season—but keep it simple.  Too many decorations may clutter your home and distract buyers. 

Take High-Quality Real Estate Photos
During the colder months, buyers will likely browse real estate listings on the Internet, from the comfort of their homes.  Be sure that the photos of your listing are top-notch, creating a good first impression for potential buyers.  If possible, include a photo of your home during the spring or summer months, so buyers have an idea of what the house looks like year-round.
