Our Pollinator Pals

Due to rain, this event has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 27, 2017.

Come out for an afternoon celebrating our newest outdoor classroom, a Pollinator Garden – from butterflies to bees to hummingbirds, there’s so much to learn about these winged beauties! Hear experts speak and participate in family-friendly activities.

The BJNC Pollinator Garden is a joint project with the City of Southlake and also a product of grants from the Perennial Garden Society of Southlake and the Trinity Forks Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas as well as donations from individuals and families in the community.

General Outline of Events*
1:00pm Opening Remarks in the Pollinator Garden
(gated garden adjacent to the big red barn)

1:30pm Calling All Citizen Scientists by Naturalist and Educator Jenny McLane
(under the green and white tent behind the Nature Center)
Learn how to report your pollinator sightings and contribute to conservation research. Smartphone apps like iNaturalist and Journey North make it easy for citizen scientists of all ages to provide valuable data. We'll show you use these apps and how to tag monarch butterflies during their migration!

2:00pm The Pollinators: Bats, Bees, Birds & Butterflies by Master Gardener Sher Dunaway
(in science classroom inside the Nature Center)
Learn about pollinators from a Master Gardener’s point of view. The Master Gardeners are truly masters at what they do. They have each taken a minimum of 50 hours of instruction with topics covering lawn care; ornamental trees and shrubs; insect, disease and weed management; soils and plant nutrition; vegetable gardening; home fruit production; garden flowers; water conservation.
