Art in the Square, a fine arts festival held at Southlake Town Square April 22-24, 2016 showcases artwork of world-wide renowned artists, emerging artists and high school artists. One of the goals of the event is to encourage young artists.

Youth Art offers high school students in Northeast Tarrant County the opportunity to enter their artwork in competition for the Lone Star Artist Award. The winner of the award will have their work on display in the rotunda of the Capitol of Texas. The winner and family will receive two nights of hotel accommodations in Austin courtesy of Kids Matter International and a VIP Tour of the Capitol courtesy of State Representative Giovannni Capriglione.

The Contest is open to any student of high school age in Northeast Tarrant County including those in private schools and those who are home schooled. The jury committee will select 100 pieces of artwork to be showcased during the festival. In addition to the Lone Star Artist Award, the jury committee selects from these 100 exceptional pieces of artwork and awards prizes to the winners in various categories. Awards are provided by Roxann Taylor with Engel & Volkers Real Estate.

Deadline for artwork is March 27, 2016. Submit artwork at www.artinthesquare.com

The SWC Foundation invites 501(c)(3) organizations that serve women, children and families in Northeast Tarrant County to apply for funding from the 2016 Art in the Square proceeds.  All applications must be postmarked or submitted online by January 15, 2016 to be considered.

Since 2000 the Southlake Women’s Club Foundation has raised and given over $2,300,000 to philanthropies across NE Tarrant County.  In 2015 over $190,000 was given to beneficiaries. The 2016 Art in the Square will be held April 22-24 at Southlake Town Square.  Beneficiaries will be presented at the “Strokes of Art in the Square” reception on February 21, 2016.

November 4, 2015…Deadline for Artist Applications

 

Artist applications are now being accepted for Art in the Square 2016 to be held April 22-24 at Southlake Town Square.  Professional artists and emerging artist are invited to apply by November 4 to be juried. The Emerging Artist program is designed especially for DFW area artists who have participated in less 2 outdoor juried shows. For guidelines and applications for both professional and emerging artists go to www.zapplication.org   The Southlake Women's Club has presented Art in the Square since 2000 and given over $2,200,000 to local charities.

High School Art at It’s Best!

Over 300 talented area high school students submitted artwork to the 2015 Art in the Square jury panel for consideration as a participant in the Student Art Venue.

The Grand Prize Winner of the Lone Star Award is  senior Serina Taluja from Carroll Senior High School. The winning piece is an oil painting titled Nanaji.

Serina’s painting is a tribute to her late great grandfather because even as he neared the end of his life he was always such a bright, optimistic, and inspiring person to her.

Serina and her family will travel to Austin for a two day stay courtesy Of Kid’s Matter International and receive a VIP tour of the Capitol courtesy of State Rep. Giovanni Capriglione.The winning art work will hang in the Capitol rotunda this summer.

 

Ten additional pieces of artwork were chosen to be recognized:

1st Place: Courtney Ma—Colleyville Heritage High School

2nd Place: McKayle Carter—Timber Creek High School

3rd Place: Alexis Helm-- South Grand Prairie High School

 

Honorable Mention:

Jasmine Le and Eliezer Garcia,-- South Grand Prairie High School

Canaan Casteel and Shivangi Patel —Colleyville Heritage High School

Itze Cuevas—Westlake Academy

JC Patino—Carroll Senior High School

 

Awards will be presented on Sunday, April 26 on the Gazebo Stage 2pm by Roxann Taylor/ Engel & Völkers

 

100 pieces will be showcased in the Student Art Gallery at Art in the Square. Congratulations to all students. Visit Art in the Square presented by Southlake Women’s Club at Southlake Town to experience exceptional artwork of area’s the high school students.

The People Have Chosen Their Favorite Artist!

 

The 2015 Art in the Square People’s Choice Award goes to David Bjurstrom of Austin, TX. His winning piece is a graphite pencil drawing entitled “Windmill.” David with 8 other 2D featured artists showcased in the Southlake Town Hall rotunda gallery competed for the honor.

This is not the first time his work has been recognized as among the very best and most innovative of drawings in pencil. He has received Best of Show and First Place honors at numerous fine art festivals around the United States. To see his exceptional artwork( booth A 8) and the art of over 160 renown artists come to Art in the Square April 24-26 at Southlake Town Square.
